Mutual of Omaha Joins Council for Disability Awareness

National effort to educate working Americans about the risk of disability and importance of income protection gains momentum

PORTLAND, Maine, Jan. 30, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Mutual of Omaha today announced it has joined the national movement to educate working Americans about disability awareness and income protection by becoming the newest member of the Council for Disability Awareness.

As a CDA member company, the Nebraska-based insurer joins America’s other premier disability insurance companies in an effort to raise awareness about the threat of an income-disrupting disability and the importance of protecting every wage earner’s ability to earn an income.

“The majority of Americans realize their ability to earn an income is their most valuable financial resource but research shows the majority of wage earners don’t understand their disability risk or chances of losing their ability to earn an income,” said Alicia Hanson , Mutual of Omaha’s National Sales Director. “We value this opportunity to help educate working Americans about how to protect their income and better prepare for the unexpected.”

“More leading companies are recognizing the critical importance of educating wage earners, employers and advisors about the risk of disabling illnesses and accidents, and about the steps people can take to protect their financial health and way of life,” said Barry Lundquist , president of the CDA. “By joining the CDA, Mutual of Omaha becomes part of an elite group of insurance companies who are committed to educating America’s workforce about disability. The company is uniquely positioned to help us spread our message and we know they will be a strong partner to the CDA and all stakeholders.”

As part of its work with the CDA, Mutual of Omaha will provide resources and expertise and will utilize CDA’s educational materials and tools, quizzes, disability research and statistics, calculators and other resources, many of which can be found on CDA’s website, https://www.disabilitycanhappen.org. In addition, Mutual of Omaha will engage with CDA in the Defend Your Income movement, which unites consumers, advisors, employers and insurers in the fight to protect the incomes of working Americans from the financial risk caused by illness and injury. The movement features a highly engaging website complete with interactive games, quizzes and calculators.
